Wargroove 2 announced for a 2023 release
Chucklefish and Robotality announced the upcoming release of Wargroove 2, the sequel to the game Wargroove, which will be available on the PC and Nintendo Switch.
The game features a similar sprite art style to the original game, but still has challenging turn-based combat. It also features an advanced tiered Groove system, an all-new roguelike game mode called “Conquest” and a cast of lovable new Commanders.
Wargroove 2 is set in the world of Aurania, where an ambitious new faction has discovered forbidden relics. The game features three new campaign arcs, interwoven in a fierce conclusion, and allows players to battle with or against friends in Co-op and Multiplayer mode, locally or online for up to four players.
The game also introduces five new unit types to master, and an all-new tiered Groove system that makes Commanders more powerful than ever. Players can level-up ordinary units by picking up special items and can get more creative than ever with new and improved map, campaign, and cutscene editors.
Wargroove 2’s captivating soundtrack is written by composer Dale North, known for his work on the Nintendo eShop, River City Girls 1 & 2, and RWBY Arrowfell.
The game is being developed by German indie games studio and turn-based RPG veterans, Robotality, who worked with Chucklefish on Halfway and Pathway.
Simon Bachmann, Art Director at Robotality explains:
“We’re thrilled to be back partnering with Chucklefish to bring the next iteration of the Wargroove series. It’s been a pleasure taking Wargroove to the next level, in a way which feels fresh and exciting for strategy fans, whilst still being true to a community who are passionate about this world and its characters. All of us at Robotality have had a great time developing the next chapter in the Wargroove universe, and we hope fans will have as much fun playing, as we have creating”.
The Wargroove 2 trailer can be below:
The original Wargroove is a turn-based strategy game that takes inspiration from classic titles like Advance Wars, Fire Emblem and especially Langrisser’s Western localized name “Warsong”. Developed by Chucklefish, the game has great 2D spritework and a diverse cast of characters to command on the battlefield.
One of the standout features of Wargroove is its challenging gameplay. Each map presents a unique set of challenges, from terrain obstacles to enemy compositions, that requires careful planning and strategy to overcome. Additionally, the game has an intricate system of strengths and weaknesses for each playable unit, making it important to understand how to properly utilize your troops to gain the upper hand.
The game also has an impressive amount of content to keep players engaged for hours on end. The campaign features a diverse set of missions that introduce new mechanics and units gradually, allowing players to learn the ropes while still being challenged. Beyond the campaign, the game also offers puzzle maps, arcade-style challenge maps, and a comprehensive level editor that allows players to create their own custom content.
Wargroove is an excellent turn-based strategy game that is both challenging but also rewarding to play. With its deep gameplay, diverse set of content, and lovable cast of characters, the game is sure to delight strategy fans and newcomers alike. We’re looking forward to the release of Wargroove 2 and seeing what Robotality can do with the IP.
