How to eliminate Alexa Carlisle and Find Case File in Hitman 3’s Dartmoor, England Level “Death in the Family”

In the Dartmoor, England level of Hitman 3, you have two tasks: To eliminate Alexa Carlisle and Find the Case File.
If you solve the murder mystery by doing the Mission Story “Means, Motive and Opportunity” you will easily get the Case File. Otherwise, any Mission Story can be used to eliminate Alexa Carlisle.
Eliminate Alexa Carlisle Overview
It’s unique because you can disguise yourself as a private detective who has to find the murderer of Zachary Carlisle, this allows you to get close to Alexa Carlisle and also get the Case File. But there are other ways to get the Case File too which I’ll outline at the bottom in case you didn’t solve the murder mystery.
First thing’s first, don’t kill or knock-out any of the unique family members! This mission is a murder mystery style mission where you disguise yourself as a private detective and interrogate the family members, and depending on the evidence you find you can convict one of 3 different candidates.
BUT, if you kill or knock-out a unique family member, then you won’t be able to talk to them for their testimony! That means that you may lock certain choices away if you do this, so if you want to have all options open to you, don’t kill unique family members! Security guards, lawyers, butlers and maids are fine, but don’t kill or knock-out the head butler, Mr. Fernsby, he’s important like the family members.
The first thing to do is to make your way into the grounds of the castle. You don’t need to immediately knock-out and disguise yourself as the private detective.
“A Day to Remember” Mission Story
Explore the grounds to find a photographer and get the mission story “A Day to Remember“, get him away from the guards, knock him out, and drag his body to nearby bushes to hide him and take his disguise.
You’ll need to find a fuse cell to use the camera, but you actually need a crowbar to get to it, but look around the gardens and you’ll find tools around including a crowbar, and be certain to save the crowbar for later it’s extremely useful for this level. There’s also a fuel cell on a table with two bodyguards close by on one of the side’s of the mansion.
Then put the fuel cell into the marker. Choose in your head if you want to kill Alexa now or if you want to do the murder mystery plotline. You can turn this photography into a murder if you use a screwdriver on the power bar nearby AND turn the water valve to the left with a wrench. A screwdriver is on the bench to the left and the wrench is on the other side of the fountain.
If you do both this things, you’ll kill Alexa right when you take the photo, so if you want to do the murder mystery take a regular photo instead. If you choose to kill Alexa, you need to sneak into her office on Level 2 of your map and crack her safe.
Take a sample picture of the maid and she will call over Alexa and her family for a family portrait.
Wait a few minutes, it can take a while, and take the portrait after everyone arrives. If you take the photo normally everybody will disperse afterwards.
“Her Final Resting Place” Mission Story
Open your map, to unlock this mission story you need to head to the graveyard to the western area. The easiest way to do this is to knock out a gardener and use his disguise.
You will overhear a conversation about how the Undertaker doesn’t like the birds. Hide in the bushes, look in the trees for their nests, and shoot down 3 of them.
After doing so, the Undertaker will arrive. He will walk around to inspect the funeral site and there are many opportunities to knock him out and take his disguise. There are also plenty of bushes nearby to drag and hide his body in.
With the Undertaker uniform, talk to the maid to bring Alexa Carlisle here. She will come with a bodyguard. Alexa will often go off to the side and inspect everything about the funeral, it’s easy for you to take out the bodyguard while she’s doing this.
With the bodyguard gone, keep talking and listening to Alexa. Eventually she will look directly into the grave. If you want to kill Alexa now and NOT do the murder mystery mission, push her in to kill her! Then, use the nearby shovel to bury her. If you do this, you need to get the Case File yourself from a safe in Alexa Carlisle’s office on Level 2 of the mansion, I’ll tell you how at the end.

“Means, Motive and Opportunity” Mission Story
Now highlight the mission “Means, Motive, and Opportunity” and track down and kill/knock-out the private detective and take his outfit if you haven’t already. You can easily do this in the gardens, and drag his body into one of the bushes.
Talk to Mr. Fernsby and you’ll start the next big leg of the mission. You now have to gather evidence with your camera and interrogate the family members, and after doing so you can return to Mr. Fernsby to conclude the investigation. Be careful of the order you do this in, try to go to the Greenhouse last because Emma will poison Alexa’s tea, but you can let that happen if you want.
Here’s a summary of steps so that you can unlock all options, and use the map (Hit Select and alternate through the tabs) to find the locations or use the video above. If the person you need isn’t available, just wait around a bit or wander around and look for them.
In Zachary’s Room:
- Use Camera on body
- Use Camera on drink
- Suicide Note
- Laptop
- Pull a book from the bookcase next to the large mirror to access a secret room and get the mansion floor plan behind the mirror in the secret room
Return to Mr. Fernsby, and you can access new areas. Have a crowbar handy to unlock doors, if you don’t have one look outside near where the gardening tools are.
Library:
- Interrogate Patrick Carlisle, he may wander around a bit
Staff Room:
- Interrogate the maid
Sitting Room:
- Interrogate Emma Carlisle
- Interrogate Gregory Carlisle
- Camera on Portrait
- Camera on Footsteps
Dining Room:
- Interrogate Edward Carlisle
- Use Camera on Edward’s Speech on table
Sitting Room:
- Interrogate Emma Carlisle
- Interrogate Gregory Carlisle
- Camera on Portrait
- Camera on Footsteps
Mr. Fernsby’s Office:
- Use Crowbar to open his locked office door
- Zachary’s Diary in the fireplace
- Mr. Fernsby’s List
- Mr. Fernsby’s Pill
Trophy Room:
- Interrogate Rebecca Carlisle if she’s around, if you’re late she won’t be here
- Camera on Documents
Emma and Gregory’s Room:
- Letter from Mother
- Greenhouse Key Chain
- Footprints
- Cane – Take this cane with you, you use it to open a secret passage!
With the Cane equipped, go to Level 1 where the upper floor of the Library is. Look for a switch on the ground where you can use the Cane, it opens a secret room with Montgomery’s Letter.
Rebecca’s Room:
- Camera on Notebook
- Laptop
Greenhouse (outside to the north), save this for last:
- Use Crowbar to open locked door
- Camera on books
- Interrogate Emma if she’s here, and once you do so run back to Mr. Fernsby, otherwise Emma will poison Alexa’s tea!
Finishing the Investigation
Once you’re done, talk to Mr. Fernsby, he wanders all over the mansion.
He will lead you to Alexa’s office. Even when talking to Alexa, you can still stand up and leave, and if you want to finish the investigation again you just need to find her and tell her you want to finish the investigation, then she’ll lead you to her office again.
If you gathered all the evidence, you can choose accusing Emma, Mr. Fernsby, or Zachary. The true culprit is Emma.
Choose whichever option you like! BUT, if you choose “Accuse Zachary”, then Alexa will kill herself. Otherwise, you need to kill her yourself.
You can also choose between getting Money or Case File. If you choose Case File, she’ll give it to you right away saving you the trouble. If not, you need to eliminate the guards, then press the button on the right side of her chair, which reveals a safe under the portrait nearby, then enter 1975 to get it.
If you didn’t Accuse Zachary, you need to kill Alexa yourself. She’s usually around guards. She looks down on her balcony so you can push her off if you already dealt with her guards, but an easy way is to poison her tea, her tea is just opposite to her office. You can find poison in the greenhouse or other areas as well. If you want to do this, follow Alexa downstairs, she will have a conversation with a lawyer or accountant first before she goes back upstairs to drink her tea. Then hightail it out of there!
If you didn’t solve the murder mystery at all and already killed Alexa using another method, go to Alexa Carlisle’s office on Level 2, press the button on the right side of her chair, which reveals a safe under the portrait nearby, then enter 1975 to get it.
