Just one warning is that sometimes you need to complete an event earlier and then you’ll be able to get the puppet/doll later on. Note that many of these puppets and dolls are extremely missable because there are many dungeons you cannot re-enter.

Also, puppets aren’t necessarily collected in order listed, so scroll through the entire list as you progress the game. The “Final Chapter” is basically Act 9 but they stopped numbering it at that point. Be careful going from Act 8 to the Final Chapter because a lot of missables happen there.

*Note: For the last puppet (Nightspawn) you need to complete the Observation Book. This means fighting all monsters in the game and collecting all puppets too, so try to explore all dungeons and zones thoroughly before completing them. Keep multiple saves in save slots as well throughout the entire game. I’ll explain more in the Night Spawn puppet bullet point. There’s a trophy for getting all puppets in one playthrough (unique puppets only, you don’t need to recruit generic monsters).

The stat growths are ranked from A for best and E for worst, when your puppets level up they gain stats depending on growths. EXP means if it’s easier or not for them to level up (there are different experience curves depending on the puppet, A meaning less and E meaning more exp required). Skills they gain are also listed.

In general, the strength of spells is Omega > Giga > Mega, though some uniquely named skills are more powerful than Omega. In general, the higher level you learn the skill the better it is.

Magic is organized into elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Holy, Dark, and Thunder
Some skills are non-elemental as well. Magic deals more damage against the “opposite element” and it works both ways. So Fire would deal more damage to a Water enemy, and Water would deal more damage to a Fire enemy, etc. The opposing elements are: Fire ⇌ Water, Earth ⇌ Wind, Holy ⇌ Dark. Thunder does regular damage to all elements including water for some reason. Death means insta-kill.

This is after you fight the Berg (Cat Chef) boss and finish Act 3, he’s not there when you first enter the dungeon. Talk to him to fight, he can be somewhat strong if you go to him right after Act 3 but you won’t game over if you lose. Don’t forget to get him.

Flare: In Act 8. You need to talk to NPCs in the Fish Restaurant in Mothergreen to acquire the location of Red Hot Village marked on your map when choosing locations to fly to. Then talk to an NPC in Red Hot to take a quiz. I won’t give the answers, the quiz is generally easy and you can retry it as much as you want and when you answer all the questions correctly you’ll obtain Flare.
Growths: HP – C, ATK – B, DEF – C, AGI – D, INT – B, EXP – B

Skills: Blast (Level 1), Heal Wind (Level 3), Breath (Level 7), Petrify (Level 12), Fire Breeze (Level 20), Wind Breath (Level 32)

Nightspawn: This one can be somewhat tricky. You need to talk to the Principal in Mothergreen (when you can go to different areas in Mothergreen he and the school is by the eastern gate) after completing all other entries in the Observation Book (all entries must be filled out except for the one entry under Child Ledgem which is Nightspawn).

When you start a new game or even load other saves you may have made earlier, all entries in the Observation Book get shared between all your saves (it’s system memory). This game doesn’t let you make a clear save to do a new game plus after completing the game, but the Observation Book gets saved to a system memory that the game always recognizes (for instance, if you go to an old save you made from early in the game, it’ll show all the monsters you encountered from your newest save even though you never actually encountered the monsters at that point in time in that save because it shares the information across all the saves).

Note that the principal does go away after endgame story events, but you can just make a new game and rush to see him. That’s the trick, once you have met the principal and acquired Nightspawn, then go to your proper save where you have all other puppets and go to the school gate, even if the principal is not there Nightspawn will now always be there at the school gate across all of your saves.

I say this because to get the trophy you actually need to get all puppets in one playthrough. The Observation List (monster list) carries over and is shared between all your saves (it’s system memory) so even if you missed a monster from earlier, as long as you have a save there you can go back and fight the enemy, complete the Observation List, and then you can go to the principal to get Nightspawn.

Nightspawn:
Growths: HP – B, ATK – A, DEF – A, AGI – A, INT – A, EXP – E
Skills: Doppelganger, Dagon Sword, Cyclops Sword, Armon Sword, Astaroth Sword, Satan Sword (Nightspawn starts at level 40 and knows all these skills already, they’re the most powerful skills in the game.)
