Record of Agarest War updated version releasing on the Nintendo Switch
Aksys Games is releasing an updated version of Record of Agarest War for the Nintendo Switch in North America, 15 years after its original release. A limited edition of the game is also available for purchase, including an 80-page art book, a set of bromide cards with artwork of female characters, an acrylic diorama, and the original soundtrack.
Record of Agarest War is a tactical role-playing video game series that was first released in 2007. The game is set in a fantasy world Agarest, where players assume the role of a male protagonist, Leonhardt, who must fight to save his world from destruction.
The game features a complex storyline, multiple playable characters, and a turn-based SRPG battle system. The game is known for its unique “Soul Breed” system, which allows players to create new child characters by getting married to their love interests. It can actually get complicated because you will get combat and stat bonuses from both parents and there are always multiple female supporting characters to choose from. You do this by increasing their affection rating with certain characters through dialog choices over the course of the story.
The game has spawned several sequels and spin-offs, and has gained a following among fans of the tactical RPG genre. It’s not a perfect game, it’s probably the longest JRPG we’ve covered, clocking in at over 100 hours easily, maybe even 200 hours if you go for all optional requests and take time grinding and upgrading equipment as well.
It’s great to see this game getting more recognition. It would definitely be a plus if this new version of the game got quality of life improvements, such as a speed-up function or ways to make grinding money or equipment more easier.
